Start with the actual sofa shape
Record overall length, depth, and height. Then note anything that changes the profile: removable cushions, feet, reclining backs, a sleeper mechanism, or sectional connectors. Measure the rigid frame, not only the soft cushion edge. For a sectional, treat each module as a separate piece.
Walk the route from the sofa outward
Measure each doorway’s clear opening with the door fully open. Note hallway width, ceiling changes, railings, stair width, landing depth, and sharp turns. Photograph the route from both directions. A measurement is most useful when it identifies the exact pinch point.
Do not force a heavy trial move
A bulky item can create awkward lifting and twisting. OSHA material-handling guidance stresses clear passageways, planning, and mechanical assistance where appropriate. Leave the piece in place if testing the route would require unsafe effort.
Compare private removal with city pickup
Albuquerque’s residential large-item program lists couches and other furniture as eligible items, but it is a separate curbside program with customer, timing, and placement rules. Indoor carry-out and private hauling are different services. Check the city page for current eligibility before relying on that option.

Choose the next step that fits the item
Albuquerque residential customers can check the city’s current large-item pickup rules for eligible curbside furniture. If the job needs indoor carry-out, stairs, disassembly, or a coordinated item list, prepare those details before requesting private removal.
Review the couch removal service page or open the estimate planner.
