What to Empty and Measure Before Dresser Removal

Empty the dresser completely, then measure the rigid case. Removing contents protects personal property and gives a truthful picture of the furniture itself.

Check every storage space

Empty drawers, hidden jewelry trays, felt compartments, and the space behind or under removable drawers. Look under the unit as well. Do not assume a closed drawer is empty because it feels light.

Record the case dimensions

Measure width, depth, and height at the largest fixed points. Note handles or trim that project beyond the case. If drawers detach, describe how; do not force stops or slides.

Treat mirrors as separate fragile components

Photograph brackets and existing chips. If a mirror is designed to detach and you can follow the maker’s instructions safely, keep its hardware labeled. Otherwise leave it attached for assessment.

Map stairs and landing turns

A tall chest and a long dresser behave differently on a stair. Record stair width, railing height, ceiling slope, and landing depth. Keep the path clear rather than attempting a risky test lift.

Choose the next step that fits the item

Albuquerque residential customers can check the city’s current large-item pickup rules for eligible curbside furniture. If the job needs indoor carry-out, stairs, disassembly, or a coordinated item list, prepare those details before requesting private removal.
