Bed Frame Disassembly: What to Record Before Pickup

Treat the bed as a group of parts. A clear list prevents the mattress, foundation, frame, headboard, slats, drawers, and hardware from being mistaken for one item.

List every component

Write down the mattress size, number of foundations, frame material, headboard, footboard, side rails, slats, storage drawers, and any bench or nightstand that will also be removed. Powered adjustable bases should be named separately because their steel frames and motors change the handling plan.

Use the manufacturer’s connection points

Photograph brackets and connections before taking anything apart. Use the manufacturer’s instructions where available. Do not improvise around powered mechanisms or wall-mounted pieces. If the connection is unclear, leave it for assessment.

Keep hardware controlled

Place retained bolts, washers, pins, and brackets in a labeled bag. Do not hide them in drawers or wrap them loosely in bedding. Tape can damage finished surfaces, so fasten the bag only where it will not mark the furniture.

Clear the path before lifting starts

Remove bedding, rugs that can slip, cords, and loose objects. OSHA identifies overexertion and awkward material handling as common injury sources; a clear route and an accurate item description support a safer plan.

Albuquerque residential customers can check the city’s current large-item pickup rules for eligible curbside furniture. If the job needs indoor carry-out, stairs, disassembly, or a coordinated item list, prepare those details before requesting private removal.
